Another Green World

Another Green World , Paul and Dan have been back in the studio recently working on some new tracks for an album to be released sometime in 1999. The first fruits of these new sessions can be heard on the forthcoming Return To The Source album 'Ambient Meditations' which is released in October. Their track on the album is a wonderful chilled epic called 'Stream Of Comsciousness'

Another Green World are the ultimate chill out act and comprose ethereal keyboard wizard Paul Chousmer and dare devil saxophonist Dan 'Spannerman' Carpenter . In the years since their formation they have found themselves in all sorts of scrapes: the birth of Club Dog, strange nights at The Crypt in Deptford, mystery trips with Alics in Wonderland, numerous festivals all over the country , parachute sets at Whirl-Y-Gig : some serious journeys to the dark edge.

In 1991 Paul and Dan were hired for the Archaos circus show Metal Clown and spent a madcap year touring Europe and Scandinavia and since then they have built up a solid reputation with their self-released cassette recordings , their continuing live appearances at Whirl-Y-Gig , Megadog , The Big Chill , Return To The Source and the Whirl-Y-Gig stage at the WOMAD festival and their contributions to a variety of compilation albums including the recent RTTS and Whirl-Y-Gig releases.

In 1996, Another Green World joined Magick Eye Records and they have now released their first CD entitled Invisible Landscapes which has been compiled from the spacey explorative recordings from their cassette releases and must surely be on of the best chill-out albums to date. The album features an icredible sleeve design by Fin and sleeve notes by Michael Dog .

When Another Green World play live and make records , time stands still , Paul Chousmer gently works his machines while sax player Danny blows harmony through the reverb and into space .Tracks don't so much move as extend, grow and morph like some wierd sonic plasticine ." You have to let your subconscious take over a bit ," Paul says with a smile, " and let yourself come down onto a dream state."

Another Green World was formed about 12 years ago when Paul and sax-man Dan played chill-out sets for London psychedelic club Alice In Wonderland's Magical Mystery Trip all-nighters. Like some wierd precursor to the post-rave ambient scene, Paul and Dan would play long , ethereal sets for hordes of horizontal acidheads. They also played the early Club Dog / Megadog parties before the hype, laying down soft sounds in the Dogs Poodle Lounge." Technology is all about human inventiveness," says Paul , as he watches history , house and techno catch up with him ," but to me , it's all in my head , closing my eyes and going where I couldn't tell you. "

The influences are Eno , Jon Hassel , Debussey , Holger Czukay , Chopin and Erik Satie. The reasults are appropriately soft , slow , as light as feathers , invisibly intricate and self-effacing. It's an underground thing as Paul and Dan's stints doing music for groups as diverse as French anarcho-circus Archaos and London's Big Chill feed back into their sounds.

" But I hope there's an organic feel to my music," Paul interjects." We create in a very organic way. The last tape was done at a National Trust place and we did loads of recording in the garden with the birds in the background. It makes it work better, recording studios are very sterile places."

For the future Paul's building a recording studio in Somerset , closer to nature , continuing to build a perfect soundtrack for letting tired heads sink into pillows , soft grass and each others bodies.
